S/4HANA transformation

SAP TRM: S/4HANA Migration Considerations

Make open transactions, accounting and operational continuity explicit in the treasury migration plan.

Establish the treasury baseline

A TRM migration starts with an inventory of instruments, organisational structures, accounting requirements, interfaces and custom developments. Include market-data dependencies and period-end procedures. Reconcile the baseline with business owners before defining a target. Technical completeness does not establish that the migrated position will support the next settlement, valuation or accounting close.

Test lifecycles across the transition

Representative transactions should exercise events before and after the planned cutover. Test cash flows, settlement, valuation and accounting, together with amendments and reversals where relevant. Migration rehearsals need agreed reconciliation criteria and a clear explanation of differences. The design depends on whether the programme is a conversion, new implementation or selective transition; no single migration checklist fits all three.

Design operational readiness

Treasury must know when processing stops, which market data is used, who signs off reconciliations and how processing resumes. Coordinate with accounting, payment operations and bank connectivity teams. Include a decision process for unresolved exceptions rather than relying on an informal go-live judgement. After deployment, stabilisation should cover real business cycles, including the first relevant period-end, with specialist ownership available for investigation.

Questions for your programme

  • Which open transactions cross cutover?
  • What are the reconciliation tolerances and sign-off owners?
  • Which first-close activities require specialist support?
