In-house banking
SAP IHC vs IHB: What Changes in S/4HANA?
An S/4HANA programme needs an explicit in-house banking decision, not a change of acronym.
Understand the existing internal bank
Before discussing a target product, document the current In-House Cash operating model. Identify participating companies, internal accounts, settlement processes, bank interfaces and reconciliation responsibilities. Capture the custom developments and manual procedures that make the process work today. A list of transactions alone will not reveal all the obligations a new design must satisfy.
Assess the target architecture
SAP documents In-House Banking as an embedded capability of advanced payment management in relevant S/4HANA releases. That relationship matters when assessing a target landscape, but it does not establish a like-for-like migration path from every IHC installation. Compare actual process scenarios, licensing, accounting flows, interfaces and operational roles against the target edition and release. Record gaps and dependencies instead of assuming that similar terminology means equivalent behaviour.
Plan the transition as a business event
Internal balances and outstanding payments need an agreed treatment at cutover. Define reconciliation evidence, the point at which new processing starts, and responsibilities for historical enquiries. Test representative entities and exception scenarios before approving the transition. Legal, tax and banking arrangements behind on-behalf-of models remain relevant even when the technical platform changes. The objective is a controlled operating model, not simply completion of a software conversion.
Questions for your programme
- Which existing IHC processes are essential?
- How will internal balances be reconciled?
- Which contracts or entity arrangements need review?
