POBO and ROBO with SAP In-House Banking
Distinguish the external bank movement from the internal ownership and accounting of the transaction.
Explain the model in business terms
Payments-on-behalf-of and receipts-on-behalf-of separate the entity using a bank account from the entity whose business obligation or receivable is being settled. That creates requirements for identification, accounting, reconciliation and internal balances. A programme should be able to explain those relationships clearly before discussing configuration. The intended model also needs legal, tax and banking assessment for each participating jurisdiction.
Follow the information through the process
Define how the underlying company, counterparty and business reference are represented in the payment or collection flow. Establish the internal account and posting responsibilities, including how exceptions are returned to the original business process. Payment-factory and in-house banking components need a consistent view of these identifiers. For receipts, allocation and reconciliation deserve particular attention because incomplete remittance information can create operational work.
Make participation a controlled decision
Do not assume every entity, bank or payment type can use the same model. Record the prerequisites for participation and test the complete external and internal accounting flow. A useful pilot includes a rejection or unmatched receipt, not just an ideal transaction. The end state should make responsibility visible: who owns the commercial item, who executes the bank movement and who reconciles the internal position.
Questions for your programme
- Which entities may participate?
- How is the underlying obligation identified?
- Who investigates unmatched receipts?
